NIH-NIEHA Superfund Hazardous Substance Research & Training Program (P42)-Due February 14
Superfund Research Program Center grants will support problem-based, solution-oriented research centers that consist of multiple, integrated projects representing both the biomedical and non-biomedical disciplines; as well as cores tasked with administrative, community engagement, research translation, research support and training functions.
CDC-NCIRD Identifying Reasons for Racial/Ethnic Disparities with Completing the HPV Vaccine Series among Adolescent Females (U01)-Due February 14
To seek a cooperative agreement to identify factors contributing to HPV vaccination coverage disparities among adolescent females and to identify possible strategies for addressing these barriers –
Healthcare Innovation Program/ACTSI Seed Grant RFP-LOI Due February 15
The Emory/Georgia Tech Healthcare Innovation Program (HIP), in partnership with the ACTSI, is pleased to invite research seed grant proposals in Healthcare Innovation. The seed grant program will fund multi-investigator, multidisciplinary teams examining healthcare services and clinical effectiveness. Preliminary Study grants and Complete Project grants will be offered. A NEW RFA is available here.
Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation Awards-Due February 15
These awards support postdoctoral fellows conducting basic research, early career clinical investigators conducting translational research and young innovators with high risk/high return ideas. The funding includes support for fellowships, pediatric research, clinical research and innovation awards.
Pilot Grants Available for Parkinson's Disease Research-Due February 15
The Udall Parkinson's Disease Center and the Emory Parkinson’s Disease Collaborative Center for Environmental Research have funds available for one-year pilot project grants. Six pilot awards between $25,000-$35,000 will be funded. Applicants can be Emory faculty or postdoctoral fellows (including residents and clinical fellows).
2012 Emory+Children's Pediatric Research Pilot Funding Program-Due March 1
The pilot opportunities focus on seeding collaborative efforts that link primary faculty investigators who are on the medical staff of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta or are faculty members of the Emory Department of Pediatrics to investigators with related interests including those in other departments at Emory and at other institutions within the State of Georgia.
NIH-Silvio O. Conte Digestive Diseases Research Core Centers (P30)-LOI March 2
The purpose of this program is to bring together basic and clinical investigators as a means to enhance communication, collaboration and effectiveness of ongoing research related to digestive and/or liver diseases.
Development & Testing of a Clinic-Based Intervention to Increase Dual Protection against Unintended Pregnancy & STDs in Female Teens-Due March 26
The purpose of this funding opportunity is to develop and evaluate a clinic-based intervention addressing access to, motivation for and adherence to dual protection strategies that concurrently protect against unintended pregnancies and STDs, including HIV, among high risk 15-19 year old females.
NIH Health Care Systems Research Collaboratory Program-LOI March 27
The NIH Common Fund has issued two Funding Opportunity Announcements for the Health Care Systems (HCS) Research Collaboratory program. The overall goal of this program is to strengthen the national capacity to implement cost-effective large-scale research studies that engage health care delivery organizations as research partners. These FOAs solicit applications for a Coordinating Center (RFA-RM-11-021) and Pragmatic Trials Demonstration Projects (RFA-RM-12-002).

Third Annual Academic & Industry Intersection Conference: Commercialization of Discoveries

University investigators and industry executives have been searching for a place to learn how to collaborate. This conference, hosted by the ACTSI and Georgia Bio, will provide examples on how universities and industry can effectively work together. The program includes stories of successful academic/industry partnerships and the announcement of a new state-wide pilot award sponsored by the Georgia Research Alliance. The half-day conference will be held at the Emory Conference Center.

Breeding & Building Molecules to Spy on Cells & Disease Processes-March 1
Presented by Dr. Roger Y. Tsien, 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry recipient for “the discovery and development of the green fluorescent protein, GFP.” Dr. Tsien is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and Professor of Pharmacology and of Chemistry/Biochemistry at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Tsien’s lecture will focus on developing novel biological molecular probes with applications in diverse areas from fundamental studies of cellular structural biology to cancer treatment and fluorescence-guided surgery. The lecture will be held at Noon in the Emory WHSCAB Auditorium and is hosted by Emory University’s Department of Biochemistry.
The 7th International Symposium on Biomechanics in Vascular Biology & Cardiovascular Disease-April 26-27
This annual symposium, sponsored by the ACTSI, brings together engineers, life scientists, physical scientists and clinicians to examine the role of biomechanics in cardiovascular disease. The conference includes oral presentations, poster session and young investigator awards. Abstracts are due on February 10.
