ACTSI Funds GA Tech Investigator

Dr. Michelle Dawson, assistant professor in the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at GA Tech, recently received an award sponsored by the GA Tech and Emory Center for Regenerative Medicine (GTEC) for a project to study new approaches for engineering mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to increase the rate and effectiveness for healing wounds. The award is funded in part by the ACTSI and provides funding for one year. Read more…

Call for Proposal: Seed Grant Program for Cardiovascular Nanomedicine - Due October 1

Emory /GA Tech was recently awarded a Program of Excellence in Nanotechnology (PEN) by the NIH/NHLBI, and established the Center for Translational Cardiovascular Nanomedicine (CTCN). To help achieve the goals of the CTCN, explore new ideas in cardiovascular nanomedicine, and facilitate the development of new collaborations between GA Tech and Emory in cardiology and molecular imaging, a seed grant program associated with the CTCN has been established. All faculty members at GA Tech and Emory are welcome to submit proposals. Call for Applications: Global Health Scholars Program - Due November 19

The NIH’s Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholars Program offers U.S. medical and graduate students in the health sciences hands-on experience at top-ranked, NIH-funded research centers abroad. The purpose of the program is to support one year of mentored clinical research training in low- and middle-income countries and to build international health research capacity in resource-limited settings. Clinical Research Center Research Residency Program-October 11, 25, and November 12

The nursing staff of the ACTSI’s Clinical Interaction Network (CIN) Clinical Research Center will be hosting another outstanding three-day research residency program. It is designed to provide novice and experienced nurses with knowledge and skills that will aid their navigation through the clinical research process. FDA Clinical Investigator Training Course - November 8-10

The second annual FDA Clinical Investigator Training Course is now open for registration. The course will be held on November 8 and 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on November 10, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the National Labor College, Silver Spring, MD. The course will enable clinical investigators to gain a greater appreciation of the scientific, ethical, and regulatory issues relating to clinical trial data that may be submitted to regulatory bodies. Studio Consultations: Biostatistics, Biomedical Informatics, and Proposal Support

The ACTSI is pleased to announce a new resource for investigators called Studio Consultations to aid in the successful design and implementation of clinical and translational science research proposals. The Studio Consultation concept involves a clinical investigator presenting their proposals to representatives of ACTSI’s Biostatistics, Epidemiology, & Research Design (BERD) program, Biomedical Informatics Program (BIP), and Clinical Interaction Network (CIN) who in turn will give the investigator their expert feedback. CTSA Pharmaceutical Assets Portal: Find New Uses for Discontinued Drugs

The CTSA Pharmaceutical Assets Portal invites investigators to join in the effort to find new uses for discontinued drugs. Portal members are given an unprecedented opportunity to request compounds from the Pfizer Indications Discovery Unit. In addition to the compounds that you may be aware of from publically-available sources, Pfizer is also encouraging inquiries about the existence/availability of little known Pfizer compounds that target specific mechanisms. Emory, MSM, and GA Tech: Electronic Biomedical Interactive Resource Tool (eBIRT)

The ACTSI and the Emory Research and Health Sciences IT division are proud to announce the recent release of the electronic Biomedical Interactive Resource Tool (eBIRT), a new web-based application used for research resource discovery. For researchers, eBIRT serves as a “one-stop virtual shop” for research resources, such as laboratory services, equipment, software, consultation services, training opportunities, and more.  To search for resources in eBIRT, go to http://ebirt.emory.edu.
