Georgia CTSA Staff Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Clinical/Translational Science Award

The Georgia Clinical & Translational Science Alliance (Georgia CTSA) is committed to ensuring a climate of inclusion and organizational equity by leveraging the varied attributes of diversity in our community. The Georgia CTSA believes it is imperative that we train, recruit, retain, and employ faculty, staff, and learners who relate to, engage with, and meet the needs of the multicultural and international communities we serve. Organizational culture rich in diverse attributes and life experiences enhances our ability to conduct equitable, cross-cultural research studies and lead the effort to eliminate health inequities and improve health outcomes locally and globally.

Georgia CTSA Excellence in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award (DEI) has been established to recognize staff who have made significant contributions to creating a culture that supports diversity and advances diversity, equity, inclusion, and/or social justice in the context of clinical or translational science. The recipient of the award will be invited to attend the 2024 Southeast Regional Clinical and Translational Science Conference on February 28- March 1, 2024 (complimentary lodging for two nights, conference registration, and mileage will be provided).


Application Deadline: Nominations will be accepted through October 24, 2023.  

Application Details

Award Eligibility

  1. Nominee must be employed in a role that supports clinical or translational science
  2. Nominee must be from a Georgia CTSA institution (Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Morehouse School of Medicine, and/or the University of Georgia)
  3. Only one person may be nominated per nomination form (no team nominations)

Nominations

Staff may self-nominate or be nominated by a colleague, manager, or administrator from a Georgia CTSA institution. The nomination letter should consist of a concise narrative (maximum 2 pages single-spaced) describing how the nominee demonstrates excellence in advancing DEI to the benefit of the Georgia CTSA research mission and/or the community and patients we serve. The narrative should include specific examples of the individual's outstanding achievements and contributions toward inclusive excellence through service, leadership, research, and/or education.

Outstanding examples of excellence in DEI include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating a culture that supports and advances DEI, and/or social justice in the context of clinical and translational research
  • Promoting an environment that is welcoming, supportive, and nurturing of individuals within the Georgia CTSA partner institutions
  • Improving awareness related to DEI, bias, and/or healthcare disparities within the Georgia CTSA
  • Engaging in the community with a focus on advancing health equity and/or reducing barriers to accessing quality care
  • Leading efforts to eliminate health inequities and improve health outcomes locally, regionally, or globally
  • Mentoring individuals from historically underrepresented groups (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, etc.)
  • Demonstrating leadership or advocacy in DEI activities

Nomination letter should answer the following questions:

  • What are the nominee’s role and job duties within their home institution?
  • What actions has the nominee taken to advance DEI?
  • What innovative efforts, methods, and/or approaches have led to positive organizational change in enhancing DEI?

All submissions must be emailed to Lauren James and include the following:

  • Nomination letter (maximum of two pages single-spaced)
  • Nominee resume/curriculum vita
  • Optional materials: One additional letter of support (maximum of one page single-spaced)

Selection Process

The CMDTS steering committee will review all nominations and make a recommendation to the Georgia CTSA principal investigators. Questions should be directed to Lauren James. 

The recipient of the Staff Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award will be recognized at the 2024 Southeast Regional Clinical and Translational Science Conference held February 28-March 1, 2024.
