Georgia CTSA Clinical Research Centers Successfully Migrates to OpenSpecimen Sample Tracking System
In January 2024, the Georgia CTSA Clinical Research Centers (GCRCs) at Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, and Grady Health Services began using OpenSpecimen, Emory’s newly adapted enterprise sample tracking system, successfully migrating 35 collection protocols, 22,200 participants, and 141,351 specimens from their legacy sample tracking system, Nautilus LIMS.
“The biorepository management software is flexible and allows us to make adjustments as needed. Tracking is also easier,” shares Dalia Arafat Gulick, Senior Associate Director, Programs, Georgia CTSA GCRCs.
OpenSpecimen is a HIPAA-compliant, web-based biobanking platform that streamlines the process of sample management, primarily collected, and tracked for research purposes. It provides a central location for researchers to enter, track, and retrieve data for the collection, storage, quality assurance, reporting, and distribution of biospecimens. OpenSpecimen is intended for investigators and laboratory staff to configure and manage autonomously.
