Ahmed received the 2015 American Association of Immunologists Excellence in Mentoring Award. Ahmed has mentored more than 70 trainees in his career.

Thomson Reuters released "Highly Cited Researchers 2014" that identifies more than 3,000 researchers worldwide who wrote the greatest numbers of highly cited papers over the past decade. These researchers, including Ahmed, ranked in the top 1% most cited for their subject field and year of publication, "earning them the mark of exceptional impact," says the site.

The 2014 1% Club recognizes faculty, including Ahmed, whose NIH proposals have been ranked in the top 1% by NIH reviewers. Read More  

Game Changers: Reviving the Immune System
Keytruda (pembrolizumab), a melanoma drug, is based on inhibiting the PD-1 protein. In defining how PD-1 functions, Emory Vaccine Center director Rafi Ahmed and colleagues helped lay the groundwork for development of this drug, which received "breakthrough" status and accelerated approval from the FDA in 2013.
