Georgia CTSA’s AppHatchery Co-Develops Digital Heart Health Tool for Young Women

Driven by her mission to inspire young people to focus on their health earlier, Holly Gooding, MD, MSc, Associate Professor, Pediatrics, Emory SOM, and Adolescent Medicine Physician, Children’s, saw the need for young women to understand their heart disease risk. Partnering with Dr. Gooding, Santiago Arconada Alvarez, MS, Co-Director, Georgia CTSA AppHatchery, led students from Georgia Tech's MS-HCI program in creating HerHeart, a digital tool to educate young women.

Georgia CTSA Investigator Leads Research on Heart Cells in Space to Advance Treatments on Earth

Research led by Georgia CTSA investigator Chunhui Xu, PhD, Emory University School of Medicine, shows heart muscle cells can grow and survive in space’s microgravity. This breakthrough could lead to more resilient cells for heart repair therapies on Earth. Dr. Xu recently sent human heart muscle cells to the International Space Station to study how they can thrive, offering insights into potential treatments for heart disease.

Georgia CTSA Investigators Co-Lead $3.8M NINR Grant to Reduce Cardiovascular Disease in Latina Agricultural Workers

The National Institute of Nursing Research awarded $3.8M to Emory’s School of Nursing and Rollins School of Public Health for a five-year study led by Multi-Principal Investigators Erin Ferranti, PhD, MPH, RN, and Ursula Kelly, PhD, APRN. The Hermanas de Corazón initiative aims to reduce cardiovascular disease in Latina farmworkers by addressing social determinants of health and leveraging community partnerships for peer support interventions.
