Public-Private Partnership to Govern Georgia's Statewide Health Information Exchange
The Georgia Department of Community Health announced that Georgia Health Information Exchange, Inc., will be the governance body for the establishment of a statewide health information exchange in Georgia. The non-profit will be charged with creating a network that will allow for the timely exchange of vital health information and accelerate the pace of health information technology development across the state. FDA Details Plans to Fortify Regulatory Sciences
FDA released a report outlining its plans to advance regulatory science. It covers seven areas in which advancements can help deliver better products: quicker assessment of new medicines, pediatric and child health, emerging infectious diseases and terrorism, use of informatics, protecting the food supply, modernizing safety testing, and regulating tobacco. The Emory Woodruff Health Sciences Center/School of Medicine is seeking pilot proposals from faculty for support for core facilities that will accelerate the development of and/or facilitate widespread access of the investigator community access to emerging technology resources. National Gene Vector Biorepository and Coordinating Center (P40)-Due January 27
The FOA solicits grant applications to provide a resource to support authorized investigators in gene transfer research. The resources sought include laboratory services and a repository of data and materials of use to the research community with an interest in gene transfer. The applications are also expected to include one or more proposals for original research in areas related to the resource and the services it provides. Read more…
Winship-Center for Aids Research Developmental Grant Program-Due February 1
This mechanism is intended to increase the number of faculty applying for HIV/AIDS-related funding by providing seed grant resources for collecting data, developing/refining methodologies, and/or developing/refining technologies. Call for Proposals: URC/ACTSI 2010-2011 Application - Due January 14
The University Research Committee (URC) and the Atlanta Clinical & Translational Science Institute (ACTSI) are pleased to announce their fourth annual call for applications for new pilot studies in clinical translational research. Proposals exploring all aspects of clinical and translational biomedical research, including development of biostatistical methodology, bioethics, and assessment of new technologies will be considered. Annual International SciTS (Team Science) Conference-April 11-14
The Annual International Science of Team Science (SciTS) Conference will be held in Chicago, IL and is an international, multi-agency forum dedicated to the empirical field of the science of team science and brings together thought leaders from a broad range of disciplines, including: translational research, evaluation, communications, social and behavioral sciences, complex systems, and technology and management in an effort to enhance understanding of how best to engage in team science to meet society's needs. HVTN Research and Mentorship Program Grants - Due January 10
The HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) is now accepting applications for Research and Mentorship Program (RAMP) Scholar Grants to attract new minds and new ideas to the development of a safe and effective HIV vaccine. Grant recipients will work under the mentorship of HVTN-affiliated investigators to conduct short-term research projects in areas of basic, clinical, behavioral and social science. NIH Announces New Program to Accelerate Research Independence
The NIH intends to invest approximately $60 million over the next five years in the NIH Director's Early Independence Award (EIA) program to help junior investigators leapfrog over traditional post-doctoral training and move into independent academic positions at U.S. institutions, directly upon completion of their graduate research degrees. The T-32 Sleep/Cardiovascular Research Training Program at Morehouse School of Medicine seeks to train underrepresented minority PhD and Medical students to pursue careers in clinical and translational research. This T-32 program benefits from established ACTSI infrastructure and research faculty in training CTR predoctoral students in sleep and cardiovascular disorders research. Lasker Clinical Research Scholars
The National Institutes of Health, in partnership with the Lasker Foundation, is pleased to announce the Lasker Clinical Research Scholars Program. The program supports a small number of exceptional clinical researchers in the early stages of their careers to promote their development to fully independent positions. The program combines a period of independent research as a Principal Investigator in the NIH Intramural Research Program for 5 to 7 years, with the opportunity for additional years of independent financial support either at the NIH or at an extramural research institution. Translational Scholar Career Awards in Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine (K23) - Due February 12
The purpose of this Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) is to provide salary and “protected time” (up to five years for this award) to support the career development of investigators who have made a commitment to focus their research endeavors on patient-oriented research. The Translational Scholar Awards in Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine program is intended to address the scarcity of investigators cross-trained in both clinical research core competencies and modern methods required to address pharmacogenomics research problems in patient populations. Atlanta CTSA Builds Partnerships to Move Translational Science Forward
The ACTSI was featured in the December edition of the CTSA e-newsletter. The article features the ACTSI’s many resources offered locally and across the CTSA.
