Morehouse School of Medicine/Emory Collaboration T32 on Sleep Funded

Dr. Alexander Quarshie (MSM) and Dr. Gianluca Tosini (MSM) are the study co-PIs and Dr.  Donald Bliwise (Emory) is the program co-director, with collaborators Dr. Thomas Ziegler (Emory), Dr. Darwin Labarthe (CDC), and Dr. Henry Blumberg (Emory). This training program's overall goal is to attract pre-doctoral URM students to MSM and train them to pursue careers in clinical and translational research relevant to the mission of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). Our objective is to augment the number of skilled investigators pursuing CTR related to clinical cardiovascular disease and sleep disorders.

The funded "MSM Interdisciplinary Sleep/Clinical Cardiovascular Research Training Program" draws on the unique features of MSM and participating institutions of the ACTSI including: 1.) MSM's clinical and research expertise on healthcare disparities and excellent record of recruiting and training African-American physicians and biomedical scientists; 2.) MSM's discipline-focused centers and institutes that intersect NHLBI research areas such as the Cardiovascular Research Institute, the Neuroscience Institute and the National Center for Primary Care; 3.) The citywide NIH-funded collaborative partnership and resource support of the ACTSI, with its major themes of Discovery, Training, and Community Engagement.

This T32 program will build on the success of our CRECD program, also known as the Master of Science in Clinical Research (MSCR), mentorship support from the ACTSI, the NHLBI-supported MSM/Emory Partnership To Reduce Cardiovascular Disparities (META-Health) program and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to achieve the following specific aims.
