Call to Participate: Pilot Inter-Institutional Research Expertise Network

Multiple institutions recently met to discuss how to facilitate interoperability between systems that capture and disseminate information about research expertise. This meeting, facilitated by the CTSA's Research Networking group, included drivers of various academic products, including Harvard's Profiles Research Networking Software, Stanford's Community Academic Profiles, U Iowa's Loki, U Pittsburgh's Digital Vita, and U Florida's VIVO. Research Networking tools allow users to search for expertise at institutions and provide other related capabilities like matchmaking, collaboration, CV generation, etc. The CTSA National Research Networking group has been working over the last several years to share knowledge to accelerate institutional deployments and to work towards the development of a network across institutions. At this time, they have launched a project to create a pilot federated network to facilitate searches for expertise across institutions. They invite any interested institution to sign up for the pilot network – the expectation is that you are already using a tool at your institution, or are getting ready to deploy a tool. Join a meeting to learn more and contribute, on October 13, in Bethesda, MD from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Natcher Center on NIH’s campus.
