Emory's PreHealth Mentoring Office: Research Advisors and Mentors Recruitment

The PreHealth Mentoring Office at Emory serves the needs of Emory undergraduates who are interested in careers and further studies in the health sciences. Created in 2009 as a joint venture of Emory College, the Provost's Office and the Career Center, our goal is to expand access of Emory undergraduates to health science related experiences. We are looking for research opportunities, clinical internships, and shadowing positions to enhance and strengthen student's academic experiences. 2011 NIH Director's Award Program: Pioneer Award Funding Opportunities-Due September 13

The award supports exceptionally creative scientists who take highly innovative, potentially high-impact approaches to major challenges in biomedical or behavioral research. Pioneer Awards provide up to $2.5 million in direct costs over five years and are open to scientists at any career stage. NIH expects to make at least seven Pioneer Awards. 2011 NIH Director's Award Program: New Innovator Award Funding Opportunities-Due September 20

The award is part of the NIH Common Fund and supports exceptionally creative scientists who take highly innovative, potentially high-impact approaches to major challenges in biomedical or behavioral research. New Innovator Awards provide up to $1.5 million in direct costs over five years and are for early stage investigators. NIH expects to make at least 33 New Innovator Awards in summer 2011. 2011 NIH Director's Transformative Research Projects Program-LOI Due September 27

The program is looking for exceptionally innovative, high risk, original research and clinical, basic, and/or behavioral/social science research projects. The deadline for submitting Transformative Research Project applications is October 27. See the instructions in the RFA (RFA-RM-10-010). 

Clinical & Translational Science Award (CTSA) Coordinating Center RFA-Due January 12, 2011

Special Event for Clinical Research Coordinators: Enhancing Patient Safety through Self Monitoring and Corrective Action Plans-August 25 & 26

Join us for an interactive clinical research workshop led by nationally recognized specialist in Clinical Trial Compliance education, Tamara Norton Smith, PhD, MT (ASCP). The workshop will include the difference between reactive and proactive compliance; the corrective and preventive action (CAPA) process and steps; root cause analysis; and delegation of authority within a CAPA process. The workshop will be held on August 25, from 11:30 pm - 1:30 pm in the Winship Cancer Institute Auditorium and on August 26, from 11:30 am -1:30 pm in the EUH Auditorium, 2nd Floor. State of Metabolomics Technologies in Translational Research-September 17

Metabolomics is an emerging field with tremendous potential to advance our understanding of human health and disease and to inform the development of personalized approaches to disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The trans-NIH Metabolomics Scientific Interest Group (SIG) is sponsoring a one-day symposium designed to share the latest advances in metabolomics technologies. CTSA Social Network Analysis Workshop-September 22

The UC Davis Clinical & Translational Science Center (CTSC) will host the 2nd Annual CTSA Social Network Analysis Workshop in Sacramento, CA on September 22-24. The workshop is for participants interested in learning the tools and techniques of social network analysis for promoting and evaluating research, especially in community-engaged settings. Studio Consultations: Biostatistics, Biomedical Informatics, and Proposal Support

The ACTSI is pleased to announce a new resource for investigators called Studio Consultations to aid in the successful design and implementation of clinical and translational science research proposals. The Studio Consultation concept involves a clinical investigator presenting their proposals to representatives of ACTSI's Biostatistics, Epidemiology, & Research Design (BERD) program, Biomedical Informatics Program (BIP), and Clinical Interaction Network (CIN) who in turn will give the investigator their expert feedback. Biomarker Core/Clones

The Biomarker Core has inherited two -80 freezers worth of clones (full length, ESTs) from Yerkes. If any investigator is interested in acquiring these clones please contact Drs. Carlos Moreno or Mark Bouzyk.

The UGA Faculty Research Expertise Database (FRED) contains information about research interests of more than 2,400 UGA faculty from all disciplines. FRED helps researchers from UGA and other institutions find information about potential collaborators. It also provides business, government, and media representatives access to UGA researchers for information and sponsored research.
