New Institutional Authorization Agreement (IAA) with Georgia Tech
Emory University has executed an IAA with GA Tech. The agreement sets forth the terms and conditions under which Emory and GA Tech may rely on each other for IRB review. The basics of the agreement are:
Student Research
-
Emory student with a GA Tech PI: If the majority of the research is done at GA Tech, Emory will rely upon GA Tech
-
GA Tech student with Emory PI: If the majority of the research is done at Emory, GA Tech will rely upon Emory
-
Student initiated studies that take place at both sites will require review by BOTH Emory and GA Tech
Faculty/Staff Research
-
GA Tech PI, but research is done primarily at Emory: If the majority of the research is done at Emory, GA Tech will rely upon Emory
-
Emory PI, but research is entirely at GA Tech: If ALL the research (excluding data analysis) is done at GA Tech, Emory will rely upon GA Tech.
With this "umbrella" IAA now in effect, we do not have to execute an IAA for each study. Investigators do need to let the Emory and GA Tech IRBs know that they want to conduct a study under this IAA, however.
