Science Advance: Relation of Obesity to Circulating B-Type Natriuretic Peptide Concentrations in Blacks

Through ACTSI-supported work, scientists have determined that a higher body mass index in blacks is associated with lower circulating B-type natriuretic peptide BNP concentrations, thereby extending the concept of a natriuretic handicap in obese individuals. Morehouse School of Medicine's Dr. Aurelian Bidulescu used ACTSI pilot grant funds to establish the brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) marker measurement used in this study, published in Circulation.
