The Request & Progress Information Database (RAPID) currently serves as a web-based application that is accessible by personnel at all ACTSI institutions while centralizing the database to minimize redundancy and improve data integrity. As such, it will serve as the backbone connecting researchers, staff and community leaders at Emory University, Morehouse School of Medicine, Georgia Institute of Technology, and other ACTSI member organizations. RAPID was developed by BIP in conjunction with Tracking & Evaluation, Governance, Adminstration, Planning & Communications and program contacts across ACTSI programs to record the progress of the ACTSI grant award.

RAPID uses the EPPN Authorization Service to authorize access by non-Emory people.  The EPPN Authorization Service was put into production to provide a way to authorize access by non-Emory people to Emory-created applications. Such applications use the Emory Login Service powered by Shibboleth, which allows people in participating organizations outside Emory to login to Emory applications at their home organization using the login ID and password they usually use there.

Previously, the ACTSI Annual Progress Report (APR) Database was the main repository for information that was submitted for the APR. However, to improve capabilities for data collection, a web-based system was developed to address previous shortcomings. The development of RAPID as a web-based system ensures that the database is equally accessible by organizations across the ACTSI. While the main function of RAPID is currently to gather information for the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Annual Progress Report, development is ongoing with plans to incorporate RAPID into the administrative processes of the ACTSI. Most recently, RAPID has completed its second development cycle with Release 2 in July 2011. In addition to tracking information for the CTSA Annual Progress Report, capabilities have been added for collecting requests for ACTSI service and the management of information by the investigators.
