Proof-of-Principle Fund

About the Fund
To support the rapid evaluation and translation of high-impact emerging technologies, the Research Technologies program established the Proof-of-Principle Fund. These funds, along with support from the Georgia Research Alliance (GRA), are used to invest in new, promising technologies that are aligned with the ACTSI strategic goals.

Supported Technologies

The enabling technologies that have been supported in part by this fund include:

  • Deltavision deconvolution microscope to enhance the existing molecular imaging capabilities at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM)
  • Emory-GRA Genomics Center: Genome analyzers (454 Sequencing GS-FLX instrument, Illumina GAII) and peripheral equipment to establish a next-generation sequencing core at Emory
  • Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) hardware and software platforms to establish an enterprise-wide LIMS platform for the ACTSI
  • Atmospheric pressure MALDI attachment for LTQ mass spectrometer to enhance existing proteomics capabilities at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM)
  • Multispectral in vivo fluorescence imaging system for small animals to enhance molecular imaging capabilities at the Emory Center for Systems Imaging
  • RainDance Technologies RDT 1000 instrument for multiplex PCR to enhance targeted sequencing capabilities in the Emory Genetics Laboratory
  • Affymetrix platform upgrade to enhance the throughput for gene expression analysis in the Winship Genomics Shared Resource
  • LCModel software licence to enhance MR image analysis in the Emory Center for Systems Imaging
  • Zeiss Photo-activated Localization Microscopy (PALM) system for the visualization of single molecules (coming Summer 2011 to the MSM Image Analysis Facility)
How to Apply for Support
Technology investments using the Proof-of-Principle Fund are made annually through a an RFA application and prioritization process that emphasizes developments that would substantially impact the ACTSI community.  For more information, contact the Research Technologies program office.
